The Heart of Every Energy-Efficient Window
An insulated glass unit — or IGU — is the sealed glass assembly that sits inside a window frame. It’s what most people are referring to when they say ‘double pane’ or ‘triple pane’ glass.
An IGU consists of:
- Two or three panes of glass, selected for your performance requirements (standard, Low-E, tempered, laminated, or pattern glass)
- A spacer bar that runs around the perimeter, maintaining a precise gap between the panes and containing desiccant beads that absorb moisture
- An insulating gas fill — typically argon — in the cavity between the panes. Note: argon fill is only available in combination with Low-E coated glass
- A dual sealant system: a primary sealant (PIB) that creates the hermetic moisture barrier, and a secondary sealant (silicone or polysulfide) for structural strength and long-term durability
When an IGU is made correctly, it will maintain its seal, its gas fill, and its thermal performance for 15–25 years. When it is made poorly — with low-quality sealants, inadequate desiccant, or imprecise tolerances — seal failure can occur within a few years.

Warranty on Our IGU Units
Every IGU unit we manufacture carries a 5-year warranty on seal integrity and insulating performance.
- If the hermetic seal between panes fails within 5 years — causing fogging, moisture, or loss of insulating gas — we replace the unit.
- Insulating performance for argon-filled units is guaranteed not to degrade significantly within this period.
- Material defects (cracks, chips, distortion from manufacturing) are covered if identified on the day of delivery or installation.
- Low-E coating degradation affecting visibility or performance is covered for 5 years.
For units we install as part of our full service, we also cover workmanship for 1 year.
Warranty does not cover: accidental breakage · storm or vandalism damage · damage from improper installation by a third party · modifications such as tinting or film applied after installation.
